May 2022 Verma Cup: Glasgow, Arran, Western Scotland Islands and Ayrshire
Day 1, Friday, May 6th, 2022 in Glasgow and Arran
- Shiskine Golf Course
-have a quick lunch of soup and sandwiches set up at Shiskine before the starting tee time of 3PM at 12-hole Shiskine Golf and Tennis Club
-following the round on this shorter course and after a whisky or beer in the clubhouse the coach picks up group from Shiskine and departs around 6:30pm for 20 minute drive to Auchrannie Hotel for check in for one night
-dinner at Auchrannie Resort is at 8:30PM
-overnight at 4* Auchrannie Resort
Day 2, Saturday, May 7th in Arran and Machrihanish
Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club
-have a lunch in the clubhouse of soup & sandwich lunch will be had prior to playing, with guests arriving between
-play Machrihanish Dunes near Campbeltown starting at 1:30PM
-following drinks in the clubhouse after golf, coach takes you 15 minutes to Ugadale Cottages for check in for 3 night stay
-booked dinner at 7:45pm in the Old Clubhouse Pub on property
-overnight in the 4* Ugadale Hotel cottages that resides beside Machrihanish, Old Course.
Day 3, Sunday, May 8th in Machrihanish
-play Machrihanish, Old Course starting at 10:08am-10:30am CADDIES REQUESTED FOR EVERYONE
-have quick lunch in Machrihanish Old Course clubhouse following the round
-play another 18 holes at Dunaverty Golf Club for tee times starting at 4:30pm. Alternative shot (foursome) competition
-have 3- course informal dinner with meal options in Dunaverty clubhouse as each group finishes its round.
Day 4, Monday, May 9th in Machrihanish
-play Machrihanish, Old Course a second time starting at 10:00-10:23am
-enjoy some afternoon downtime or enjoy pints in the town and have fun in the area or visit Springbank Distillery
-return to Ugadale following dinner and drinks around 9pm and we may need to have to take cabs
-overnight at Ugadale
Day 5, Tuesday, May 10th in Machrihanish and Islay
- The Machrie Hotel
-lunch of soup and sandwiches is provided before our tee times
-play The Machrie Links with tee times starting at 2pm
-enjoy a pint or two before checking into the hotel
-enjoy a festive dinner at 8:30pm and then indulge in whisky tasting at the Machrie
-overnight for one night at The Machrie Hotel
Day 6, Wednesday, May 11th on Islay and Troon
- 6-hole Wee Course on property, sleep in, enjoy walks, visit whisky distilleries. This is a good day to rest your bones before the final two days of epic matches in Ayrshire
-group has a set dinner at Western House at 8:30pm in a separate room
-overnight at Western House for next three nights
Day 7, Thursday, May 12th in Troon
-play Royal Troon starting with tee times at 2:40pm CADDIES REQUESTED FOR EVERYONE
-Verma Cup group walks across road for 8:30pm dinner at Piersland House-an old Johnnie Walker home
-overnight at Western House
Day 8, Friday, May 13th in Troon
-Prestwick Golf Club starting at 9:56am-10:22am CADDIES REQUESTED FOR EVERYONE
Remember gentlemen that this is the 150th Anniversary of the Open Championship and this is the golf course that began it all. You are on sacred ground!
-Enjoy the special Prestwick Experience lunch in the dining room following the round. It is not offered frequently during the week and I spoke with the Secretary in Scotland to put this together for our group. Celebrate the finish of the Verma Cup.
NOTE: Dress code for gentlemen is jacket and tie please. As the Secretary states, “We also sometimes find that golfers do not bring street shoes and only have golf shoes which we do not allow in our main lounge (the Smoke Room) or Dining Room. Please bring proper clothing on the coach transport to change into following your round”
-Red Lion Pub around 4:00pm where Old Tom Morris drained his sorrows many years ago and the Commish will buy everyone a favourite pint
-The Drunken Coo restaurant in Ayr for a 7:15pm set dinner and then drinks afterwards. After dinner we go to a separate room to chat about the week and sip a whisky or two
